Alice D. Wilken, nee Dittmaier, entered into rest on Tuesday August 5, 2025, two days before her 92nd birthday. Beloved wife of and reunited with the late William V. Wilken; devoted mother of Janice (John) Dempsey, Karen Wilken, William J. (Jennifer) Wilken, and Thomas (Denise) Wilken; cherished grandmother of Thomas (Kirsten), Caitlin (Connor), Madison, Haley, Jake, David (Alyssa), and Victoria (Patrick); blessed great-grandmother of Evan and Hunter; treasured sister of Harold (Shirley) and Don. Alice is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
Alice was born in the waning days of summer in August 1933 to parents the late Aloysius and Elizabeth, nee Hynek, Dittmaier, in St. Louis, Missouri. Alice would go on to graduate St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis, where she forged lifelong connections and gathered the education that would serve as a foundation for her adventurous spirit. She is remembered for her unwavering love as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Each road trip across the United States, every adventure shared, and each moment spent together are woven into the rich tapestry of memories her family will treasure for the rest of their lives.
Travel was one of Alice's passion. Among all her travels, Hawaii held a special place in her heart. The beauty of the islands brought her joy and tranquility, a fitting reminder of the warmth and love she shared with those around her. In the comfort of her home, one could always find her engrossed in the sounds of Cardinals Baseball games playing on the radio. For Alice, there was something magic about immersing herself in the descriptions of the game, preferring it to the distraction of the television screen. Alice's generous spirit and kind heart touched the lives of many. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen and cherished. As her family reflects on Alice’s well-lived life, they remember not only the grand adventures that defined their time together, but also the quiet moments of joy that made their relationships so special. Alice's legacy will remain alive in their stories, and her spirit will continue to guide them through life’s journey.
Alice will be deeply missed, but her love and unwavering devotion to her family will forever be a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
