Robert W. Niccum, known to friends and family as “Bill” or “Pops” was born on Sunday, August 3, 1952, and entered into rest peacefully at home with his wife in Affton, Missouri, on Thursday May 7, 2026, at the age of 73.
Bill was born to parents Robert Roy and LaVerne Loretta, nee Niehoff, Niccum in South St. Louis where he was raised and made memories all throughout his fulfilling life. In May 1970, Bill joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) until February 1972. For his service, Bill received multiple medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon returning home from his time serving in the Navy, Bill worked a variety of jobs until he found purpose and reward as a Union Carpenter with Local 5, where he worked until his retirement.
Above Bill’s love for his work and country, Bill cherished his family. Bill’s children were his everything, and he was known to be “the dad of dad’s.” His nickname, “Pops” was indicative of the relationship that he held with his children, grandchildren, and family friendships. Bill made the effort to show the love and pride that he had for his children, creating a legacy of dignity and encouragement that continues to be passed on through his children and grandchildren, especially his son, Scottie.
Bill’s children will never forget the role model that he was for them, and the role models that he allowed and encouraged them to be. The memories and lessons that Bill shared with his family will be cherished for years to come, and the pride that he had for his family will NEVER be forgotten.
Bill is survived by his wife of 38 years Denise Niccum, nee Dockery; two daughters Stacy and Jennifer, both of St. Louis, and his son, Scottie, also of St. Louis; grandchildren Rylee, Wilma, Kyleigh, and Sophia, all of St. Louis, and many bonus children and grandchildren; his mother, LaVerne, of Illinois; brother, Jody, of Bismark, Missouri, and sister, Cindy, of Illinois; Bill’s extended family, including his father-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Bill is also survived by many other dear family members and friends.
Bill was loved and will be missed by anyone who had the chance to meet him. He made an impact in some way on everyone that he met. His chains are gone, no more suffering. May he rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Friends of Kids with Cancer in Bill’s honor. Donations can be made through the link below or by calling (314) 275-7440.
A visitation for Bill’s family and friends to gather and share memories will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South City Chapel from 9:00 AM until his funeral at 11:00 AM. Immediately following his service, a cemetery ceremony and subsequent interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
