Centa Schmitz

August 28, 1929 — July 15, 2022

Schmitz, Centa of Saint Louis, MO, born on August 28, 1929 in Germany passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Mary, Queen and Mother Center Hospice Care at the age of 92.

Wife of the late Matthias J. Schmitz and mother of Raymond (Diane), Bernard (Barbara), Ronald (Christine) and James Schmitz. Dear grandmother of Bryan (Megan) Schmitz, Anne Schmitz, Kate (Andrew) Disabato, Renee Schmitz, Adam (Ashley) Schmitz, Eric (Ashley) Schmitz, Jason Schmitz and Emily Schmitz. Dear great-grandmother of James Disabato, Lucy Disabato, William Markillie, Kaitlyn Markillie, Wyatt Markillie, Hunter Markillie, Luke Schmitz, Chloe Schmitz, Jaden Schmitz, and Elsie Schmitz. Dearest aunt, godmother, neighbor, and friend to many.

Growing up in war torn Germany in the late 40s, she met our dad as a pen pal, married him in the alps of Germany, and knowing very little English, moved to the United States as they fulfilled the American Dream. Americanizing her name to Centa from her given christian name of Kreszenz, they settled in Saint Louis raising four boys. She had an over 20 year career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Barnes Hospital. Mom always loved her classical music, doing her "Jumble" puzzle in the newspaper, and had an amazing gift for growing flowers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation appreciated to the Missouri Botanical Garden as mom cherished visiting the yearly orchid show.

Services: Funeral Mass Friday, July 29 at Our Lady Of Sorrows Catholic Church. Public visitation 9am at church followed by mass at 10am.
