Obituary

Diane Kathleen Hacke (nee O'Hearn), entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the love of her children.

Born on August 26, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, Diane was the beloved daughter of Leo Raymond O'Hearn and Mary Jane O'Hearn (nee Summers). She attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, where her lifelong commitment to serving others first began to shine. As a young woman, she worked as a Sunday school teacher, a nurse's aide, and held jobs at Mr. Steak and Six Flags while pursuing her education.

In 1979, Diane graduated from Maryville College with her nursing degree, beginning a remarkable 34-year career as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career, she worked in nearly every branch of nursing, touching countless lives with her compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication to her patients. She ultimately found her professional home at Pipefitters Local 562, where she proudly served as a nurse for 26 years, 16 of which she was head nurse and office manager. Nursing was never just a profession to Diane—it was her calling. She had an extraordinary gift for comforting others and dedicated her life to caring for those in need.

While Diane's career was one of service, her greatest pride and joy was always her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to Catie, Tim and Adam. She treasured every moment spent with her children, creating a lifetime of cherished memories through family adventures, laughter, and unconditional love.

One of Diane's most joyful titles was becoming "Mimi" to her beloved grandson, Logan. Their bond was truly special, and the time they spent together filled her heart with immeasurable joy. Whether they were building elaborate Lego creations, playing imaginative games, exploring together, or simply enjoying one another's company, those moments became treasured memories for both of them.

Diane loved traveling with her family, especially their annual vacations to Destin, Florida, where some of her happiest memories were made. She also found joy in life's simple pleasures—visiting wineries, spending afternoons at Grant's Farm and Purina Farms, caring for her beloved dog Lucky, and making every family outing an opportunity to create lasting memories. She had a remarkable ability to make ordinary days feel extraordinary through her warmth, creativity, and loving spirit.

She was preceded in death my her younger brothers Leo O'Hearn and Patrick O'Hearn. She is lovingly survived by her children, Catie Hacke (Robb Herold), Tim Hacke (Staci Cohen), Adam Hacke (Jill Hacke); her cherished grandson, Logan Hacke; her sister, Teresa Shafer; her nephew, Jon Shafer; her niece, Haley O'Hearn; and many extended family members, dear friends, former coworkers, and patients whose lives were enriched by her kindness.

Those who knew Diane will remember her as a woman of unwavering compassion, quiet strength, generosity, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. She lived her life in service to others, always placing the needs of her family, friends, patients, and community before her own. Her legacy is one of love, selflessness, and kindness—a legacy that will continue through the many lives she touched.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Diane's love will live on in the memories she created, the lives she cared for, and the family she cherished so deeply. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held on Sunday July 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 7027 Gravois Rd., St. Louis, MO 63116.
