Edmund “Ed” Lorenz passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of his family. Born to the late Edmond and Olene Lorenz (née Cronin), Ed lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Ed was the beloved husband of Lois Lorenz (née Dwyer), his partner in life and love for an incredible 66 years. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and shared joy. Together, they built a life full of laughter, family, and cherished memories.
A devoted father, Ed is survived by his children Liz (Bart) Lovett and Tony (Diane) Lorenz, who carry forward his legacy of warmth and integrity. He was the proud and cherished “PaPa” of Mike (Kimmie), Claire, Eleanor (Kipp), Samantha, and Sarah, and the loving great “PaPa” of Leo, Josie, and Sloane. His family was his greatest joy, and he never missed a chance to show them how deeply he cared.
Ed was the dear brother of the late Don and the late Dolores, and a treasured uncle, cousin, and friend to many. His easygoing nature and gentle humor made him a joy to be around—he truly went with the flow and made everyone feel welcome.
A natural tinkerer, Ed had a gift for fixing things and a knack for solving problems in a way that was nothing short of “McGyverish.” Whether it was working on cars or finding clever solutions around the house, he approached every task with patience and ingenuity. He also had a quiet ritual of reading the newspaper from front to back, savoring every word and staying curious about the world.
Ed had a heart as big as his toolbox. His dedication to helping others shone brightly through his volunteer work at the Bevo Food Bank and St. John the Baptist, where he gave his time generously and always with a smile. Whether it was lending a hand to those in need or quietly making sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes, Ed’s presence brought comfort and kindness to everyone around him.
And when it came to home improvement, there truly wasn’t a project he could resist. From fixing a leaky faucet to tackling full-scale renovations, Ed approached every task with enthusiasm and skill. He especially loved working on projects at his children’s homes—each nail, brushstroke, and repair was a labor of love. We cherished those moments, not just for the improvements he made, but for the laughter, stories, and warmth he brought with him.
Above all, Ed loved life. He loved his family, his home, and most of all, his dear Lois. His presence was a steady comfort, his smile a source of light, and his love a gift that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
