Edward Franklin Wood Jr., affectionately known as Ed, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2024. Born on August 30, 1934, in Saint Louis, Missouri, he was the son of the late Edward (Ted) and Sarah Jane Wood, nee Conrad.

Ed was a graduate of Beaumont High School and a member of Wesley United Methodist church in North St. Louis. He married the late Carol Wood, nee Dobler in 1956, and they then both attended the Church of God for many years. Most recently, he attended Concord Trinity United Methodist Church.

He served in the Navy and was a St. Louis City Police Officer for over 30 years, primarily in the 6th district. After retiring from the police force, Ed kept busy as a conductor on the Saint Louis Zoo Railroad as well as several other part time roles.

Ed loved to travel. He took his family across the US on amazing car trips, sometimes along with their great friends, the DeWitts and the Mizells. He was always planning his next trip, visiting over 50 countries with Carol throughout their 64-year marriage. In fact, one of his greatest gifts was his ability to always plan for the future, responding to setbacks and heartbreak with practical solutions and grace.

Ed is survived by his daughter Cheri (David Emmitt) Wood; his grandchildren Derek Moriarty, Jordan Wyner, and Caroline Emmitt; and his great grandson Jamie Austin.

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, daughter Susan Wood Moriarty and his brother Gordan Wood. He wasn't afraid to die and believed that he would be reunited with them someday in paradise.

The services to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes - South County Chapel located at 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd in St. Louis, Missouri. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. The interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, immediate family only in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The BackStoppers in Ed's memory.
