Edwin "Eddie" George
Meinberg Jr.
May 21, 1939 – April 28, 2026
Edwin “Eddie” George Meinberg Jr. entered into rest on Tuesday April 28, 2026, at the age of 86. Eddie was an incredible friend and fixture in the lives of many people, but especially his heart-adopted family consisting of Linda, who knew Eddie for 43 years, and saw him as the brother she never had, "Uncle Eddie" to her children, the late Charlie Weathers, Billy, Bryce, Jennie, and the dogs whom he cherished taking on walks, Samson, Dolly, and Rio.
Eddie was born and raised in Affton, Missouri, and although he would only attend high school for two years, he found success and reward in the small appliance trade. His career would take him to many security companies including Pinkerton, Whelan, and St. Louis Security, his flexibility and quick-thinking skills allowing him to protect his community when needed.
Eddie had the ability to stand out in any crowd. His “Daisy Duke” shorts and long tube socks accompanied with some of his lovable peculiarities would catch people’s attention, but it was his personality and character that would continue to hold people’s interests. Eddie had a noteworthy humility and selflessness about him. He did not appreciate attention nor fanfare focused on him, but rather found fulfillment in sharing with others. He had a “giving spirit” and would happily contribute to others his time, money, and, once he was comfortable with someone, his own thoughts and insights, which was a blessing all its own. Eddie’s good nature and humility allowed him to let unkind remarks roll off his back. Friends have stated that when individuals mocked Eddie, they knew that those people could not see into Eddie’s soul and the moral goodness that he emanated.
In quieter moments, Eddie loved to watch television, especially his favorite shows, often calling his family and friends to tell them about shows on Channel 9 they may want to watch as well. When friends knew Eddie was coming over to visit, they would designate a spot for him to watch his shows when needed, helping him feel welcome and comfortable in their home. Later in his life, at the nursing home where he would ultimately pass, Eddie remained outgoing. He would move around often, earning a nickname “Scooter,” and found great delight and satisfaction in participating in the activities along other residents of the nursing home.
Over the years, Eddie most enjoyed spending time and making memories with the Weathers family. He cherished watching the children grow up and treasured many annual holiday celebrations. Eddie’s relationship with the Weathers was undoubtedly a double blessing, as the family similarly cherishes those memories and the blessing that is knowing Eddie.
Eddie did not make it to his 87th birthday on May 21, but it is serendipitous that he was finally laid to rest in the month of his birth. Nearly 87 years on this Earth sharing love and experiences – what a glorious yet non-pretentious life to celebrate! We weep for our loss, but we celebrate that Eddie is with Our Heavenly Father. Eddie will be greatly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him, but we thank God for the opportunity to meet him. May Eddie rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Eddie’s honor.
