Vera Rode passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the age of 95 just 3 days short of her 96th birthday at Nazareth Living Center, memory care in South County. She was a lifelong resident of South St. Louis, born as the only child to the late George and the late Lydia, nee Dressing, Loesche. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold C. Rode.
She is the mother to Kathy (Bob) Davis, Don (Patty) Rode, Chris (John) Siebert. Grandmother to Craig, Janice, Amanda, Katie, Max and Alex. Great Grandmother to Wesley, Felix, Russell, Penelope, Charlotte, Gracie and Laney.
She was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church in the City and was active in various social groups throughout her life. One of those groups of her and her husbands friends was affectionately called the “Scroungie’s” because of their affinity to being quite frugal. This was the mantra that was of course passed down to all the children of those in the group. She was also active in the Salvation Army, square dancing and line dancing groups as well as the card clubs (i.e. eating clubs).
She enjoyed talking and socializing with others, always had a smile and kind manner about her, never to be heard of complaining, with the exception of an occasional expression of “phooey” when encountering a red light stop on the way to a lunch gathering.
She enjoyed being a Mother, homemaker, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by many who were blessed to know her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to American Stroke Foundation or Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in honor of Vera.
Respectfully, Vera's services will be held privately for the family. She will be interred in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, alongside her beloved husband, the late Harold.
