Eugene Campione

Campione, Eugene A. "Gene", Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 90 years of age. Beloved husband of Gloria D. Campione (nee VanSkike) of Myrtle Beach, for 63 years. Loving father to Larry (JoAnne) Campione, Charlotte, NC, Ronald Campione, Linden, VA and Barbara (Bob) McGrattan of Hayesville NC; Dear grandfather to Kevin, Michael and Robby McGrattan and Chris Campione; great-grandfather of Ian McGrattan. Gene was the Co-concert Master of the Metropolitan Opera for 32 years, was at Radio City Music Hall in New York for 8 years and Concert Master for the Long Bay Symphony. Born in St. Louis, MO, at the age of 14 he received a scholarship to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Gene served as a radio operator in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Retired to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1989. He was buried with Full Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
