Gerald Franklin “Andy” Anderson joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Saturday June 20th. He was born January 7th 1933, to Lucille Johaningmeyer and George Anderson. An only child, he graduated Beaumont High School as an honor student and athlete. Basketball took him to Moberly Junior College. Intent on transferring to Mizzou in the summer of ‘58, Uncle Sam changed his itinerary. Drafted into the U.S. Army, he spent active time in Germany as a patriot. In his 93 years, Andy was renowned for his family, faith and commitment.
Married 68 years to his beloved Ann, they begat 3 sons and started what came to be his passion: being a boy dad. He seemed most content coaching, playing or leading and that translated to decades of coaching countless sports. Similarly, he chose leadership roles within Boy Scouts so he could be close to the adventures of his sons. An athlete himself, Andy seemed most peaceful hitting ground balls, shooting hoops or even building a fire. Andy built an unshakeable family. His 70 year love for Ann began at 23 years old while attending Mizzou. That legacy is now 3 sons and daughters-in-law, 7 grand-children and 5 great grand babies.
Gerry and Ann are members of Faith Lutheran Church and have been active there for decades. His faith surpassed Sundays as he was involved in bible studies and small groups. His library contains hundreds of volumes pursuing Jesus and he read voraciously.
After graduating from Mizzou Journalism School with a Bachelor of Science, Gerry succeeded in newspaper advertising for 40 years with a career that spanned the Chicago Tribune, St. Louis Globe Democrat and Post Dispatch. His post professional life was filled with grandkids, crosswords, books and dogs. When able, Andy was known to walk miles at a time; often twice a day with his four legged pals.
Gerry is survived by his wife Ann (nee Evans). Sons Tom (Denise) Anderson, Steve (Jeanne) Anderson, Jim (Lauren) Anderson. Grandchildren Stephanie (David) Feinstein, Eric (Elizabeth) Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Jessica (Matteo) Anderson and Jack Anderson. Great grandchildren Carter Feinstein and Andi Anderson.
Please celebrate his life as one well lived. He knew, loved and pursued the Lord in life. We await our heavenly reunion with him expectantly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of Oakville in Gerry's honor.
