Geraldine "Gerry" Abeln, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her family, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on September 22, 2024, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Born on August 4, 1938, in Saint Louis, Gerry embodied elegance and had a flair for life, known to all as a very classy Diva whenever she stepped out.
Gerry was a person who brought joy and warmth to those around her. She was the Queen Matriarch of the family, often sharing stories, while always possessing a kind heart and a willingness to help everyone in need. Her interests included volunteer work, where her generous spirit shone brightly, and she had a passion for decorating, bringing beauty and comfort into her surroundings.
Family was at the center of Gerry’s life. She leaves behind her beloved children, Maureen (Roger) Pickett, Pat (Steve) Wymore, and Janet (David) Jacobs, who will carry forth her legacy of love and togetherness. Gerry treasured her role as a grandmother, to her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas (Maggie) Wymore, Noel (Brent) Powers, Brian (Kelly) Pickett, Ashley (Evan Prokos) Pickett, Kaitlyn (Jared) Richardson, and Jordan (Luke) Parker. Great-Grandmother of Amelia, Sydney, Brayden, Brynlee, Graham, Quinn, Blayke, Cora, Kendall and Nolan.
Gerry was also a loving sister to Thomas (Deanna) Schinsky, Lawrence (the late Janet) Schinsky, Carl (Janice) Schinsky, and Jackie (Jim) Spellmeyer. She will be remembered fondly as a dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, Godmother, and a special friend to many.
Geraldine was predeceased by her devoted husband, Leonard E. Abeln, and her loving parents, Carl Francis and Catherine Marie (nee McGinnis) Schinsky.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her extraordinary life. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes - South County Chapel, located at 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO 63129. A Prayer Service will take place on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 9:15 AM, leading into a Mass at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Gerry will then be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
