Obituary

Gloria Ann Altepeter (nee Jennewein), age 92, of Shrewsbury, MO, passed away peacefully on August 30 surrounded by her loving family.

Gloria was born on July 26, 1934, to Henry and Anna Jennewein. She married Art Altepeter on August 8, 1953, and together they were blessed with five children. There was never a dull moment in their household as they were busy raising their children, welcoming grandchildren, socializing with friends, and traveling. After 39 years of marriage they decided to part ways. Gloria then enjoyed several single years before she found love and companionship again with her fiancé, Harold McCulley. Together, Gloria and Harold shared many wonderful years, frequenting their favorite restaurants, socializing with family and friends, and traveling.

Mom was a proud graduate of Rosati-Kain High School. She was employed for over 30 years with Trans World Airlines, where she made lifelong friends. She loved traveling and enjoyed sharing the many memories of her travels with her family and friends. Mom was very social. She enjoyed parties, social gatherings, and going out to lunch or dinner with friends. She was happiest when surrounded by family, friends and laughter.

In her later years, mom found joy in giving back to her community, especially volunteering at Catholic Charities and the Fox Theatre. Her loyal service was recognized when she was honored with the Cardinal Rigali Service Award. Her life was defined by her faith, her love for her family and friends, and bringing warmth and kindness to others.

She was fortunate to experience special friendship with and care from her nieces, Pam Gennaro and Sherry Nuelle-Marion.

Gloria is survived by her devoted fiancé, Harold McCulley; her loving children, Terry Altepeter (Anne), Tim Altepeter, Tom Altepeter (Susan), Tamara Altepeter-Zentgraf (Fran), and Dan Altepeter; her dear brother, Jerry Jennewein; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna; her brothers Robert and Kenny; her sisters Audrey and Joan; and the father of her children, Art.

A visitation will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church (7622 Sutherland Ave. Shrewsbury) on Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Charities.
