On Thursday June 20th, 2024, Harry William Hadd, loving grandfather, uncle, and father-in-law, passed away at the age of 88 from complications due to Colon cancer. He had many other titles during his life: husband, father, seminarian, Teacher, Principal, landlord, and Chicago Cub’s fan. You name one; he probably had it, or at least tried it. He was not afraid to try a new title/thing and fail, and the first to admit when he made a mistake. However, that’s what made him so good at so many things. He was a natural born solver and planner.
He typically had a plan, wanted to know yours, and was more than willing to help you. He inherited planning from his father, Alphonse, who was a bookkeeper, and worked throughout the Great Depression. His doting mom, Marie, was persistent, and unwilling to let other’s comments about her diminish her potential accomplishments. Harry was born with a facial birth mark and suffered severe bullying during his days in elementary school and wanted to drop out. He endured the comments day after day, month after month, and learned to live through the pain and suffering. He was so persistent and ended up obtaining a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and PhD.
He made earning degrees look easy, and believed education was something nobody could take away from you. He was a life-long learner, and mentioned a subject he would have liked to pursue if he had more time in his waning days. We hope you appreciate life like Harry did, and celebrate his life on July 20th at Mary, Mother of the Church by visiting his family at 9, the funeral services at 10, and the subsequent burial at Calvary Cemetery.
