Henry "Hank" Tiedemann

July 29, 1930 — May 19, 2023

Saint Louis, Missouri

Henry J. Tiedemann

1930 — 2023

Survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna (née Driskell) and son Mark (partner Donna). Henry passed away on the morning of May 19th after a long and eventful life.

Born in New York at the onset of the Great Depression, the fourth child of immigrants, Otto and Margarethe, Henry grew up learning resilience and acquiring a self-sufficiency that carried him through life's challenges. Drafted into the army during the Korean War, he met the love of his life while on leave in St. Louis, MO. Upon mustering out of the service, they married and settled in St. Louis where Henry's aptitude with machines and skill at fine detail work took him through several jobs, first at Remington Rand and finally at Emerson Electric where he became manager of the methods engineering department.

Throughout his life he worked to create a nurturing and supportive home and saw his family through difficulties and successes.

Those are the facts. The essence is that Henry Tiedemann was a positive and vital presence and for those who knew him he left an indelible impression. He made a difference where he could. He was open and interested and did not pre-judge. He was a natural egalitarian and his compassion was constrained only by circumstance and opportunity. He possessed a keen mind and tremendous humor and lived a life that could serve as a model for the best in humanity. The part of the world in which he moved and acted was made richer by his having been there.
