Janice Louise Battles

November 1, 1950 — December 31, 2023

Clayton, MO

Janice Louise Battles (nee Scherting) passed away on December 31, 2023. Janice was born on November 1, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri. Janice was the daughter of Joseph John Scherting and Johanna “Jenny” Mary Scherting.

Survived by her husband of forty-two years, Richard Joseph Battles, sister, JoAnn (Robert) Bottger and niece Cynthia (Scott) Cant.

Janice was an English teacher and educator for forty-five years. Janice taught seventh grade through advance placement high school seniors. Janice graduated from the University of Tulsa and earned her master’s degree in English from the University of Dallas and advanced classes from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Janice was recognized by the State of Texas as a top high school teacher.

Janice had a love for her students and fellow teachers. It was Janice’s passion to help her students as well as fellow teachers reach their maximum potential. Many of Janice’s students have gone forward to become doctors as well as published authors.

Janice had a unique ability to light up a room with her smile always trying to make sure everyone’s needs were met. Underneath her beautiful smile, there was a wicked sense of humor waiting to make a sharp and quick point. After moving back to St. Louis, Janice was able to reunite with her dearest high school friends and start a regular monthly lunch. The “J” group: Jill, Julie, Jeri and Janice, brought her much enjoyment. Janice would want to recognize other important people in her life: Wayne and Judy Hillendahl, Vikki Massengill and the late Diane Kreger and many others. Over the past thirty-two years Janice endured thirty-five surgeries to correct orthopedic problems. There were many talented doctors that allowed Janice to continue her teaching career and live a normal life. Many thanks for their efforts.

For all who knew her love for Angel…Janice will now be with the Angels.
