Joan Lewis

November 20, 1939 — March 14, 2022

Emblem

Joan M. Lewis (nee McKie) entered into rest on March 14, 2022, at the age of 82.

Joan was preceded in death by her mother Hallie Beckerman, sisters Veronica  Karius and Christine Lewis, and granddaughter Rebecca McGuire and brother-in-law Theodore Wilhelm.

Joan grew up near Lafayette Park, and was a nurturing mother to her three children, whom she raised with her husband in Webster Groves.  In her lifetime she resided in New Orleans, Carbondale and Waterloo, IL, and lived her final days in St. Louis County.  She enjoyed traveling to Arizona, the gulf coast, Colorado, Branson, and was even able to travel throughout Europe with her sister Virginia. An avid lover of music, she enjoyed attending performances at the St. Louis Symphony, Muny, and Fox Theatre.  Joan was the matriarch of the Bunco B’s and consistently shared breakfast on Sunday mornings with her breakfast club.  A steadfast Christian woman, she was a long time member of Maplewood Baptist Church.  She will be remembered as a dear friend, loving mother, a fun loving ‘groovy’ grandmother to all of her grandchildren whom she adored, and devoted wife to her husband of 63 years. We will hold you in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her beloved husband Lawrence E. Lewis Sr.; loving mother of Lawrence Lewis Jr., Linda (Kirk) Belton and David (Teresa) Lewis; cherished grandmother of Jennifer Nash, Tracey (Michael) Leyva, Alexandra Lewis, Erika Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Hallie Lewis, and Karen Lewis;  great grandmother of Noah Bequette, Dylan Leyva, Claudia O’Donnell, and Nolan Villalobos; Dear sister of Virginia (Oliver) Wever, Donna (Paul) Cornell, George (Karen) Beckerman, Sandra Wilhelm, and Gerolyn (Gary) Hilton. Brother-in-law Rick Karius; dear aunt and friend to many.
