John Patrick Dunn, 78, peacefully slipped into the loving arms of God on May 16, 2021 Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. Beloved husband of 58 years to Susan Dunn (neeYanko); Devoted Father of Susie (Mark) Giljum, Jerry Dunn (April Kilman), Pattie (Tim) O’Connell, Kellie Dunn (Dave Nichols); Loving Grandfather of Andy Giljum (Mia Waldo), Jake Giljum (Nicki Restivo), Emily (Jordan) Oster, Meaghan, Kathleen, Colleen O’Connell, Grace (Michael) DeSalvo, Debbie Farley, John Farley; Dear Great Grandfather of Augustina DeSalvo, Michael DeSalvo.

Preceeded in death by his sister Rosemarie Dunn, Brother & Sister-in-law Edward & Greta Dunn, brother-in-law Tony Yanko.

Dear Brother of Patricia (Paul) Enright, Tom (Patty) Dunn, Dear Brother-in-law of Ron (Barb) Yanko, Al (Kathy) Yanko, Thomas (Shelley) Yanko, Charlie Yanko, Patricia (Wilson) Lorenz, Mary (Gary) Leibeskind. Uncle to many Nieces & Nephews & great Nieces & Nephews, Friend to many.

John supported his family as an auto mechanic, tearing down and rebuilding transmissions and engines at Fred’s South County Auto Repair for 25 years. John was a good carpenter, working as a general contractor with the City of St. Louis and also his own Home Improvement Business for 6 years. In 1997 he began working nights for the City of St. Louis International Airport in Bldg, maintenance, then HVAC til retirement December 2012 after a debilitating accident in November 2011.

John was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows for 55 years. He was very active in the Athletic Association in the basketball program, he coached many teams for 14 years and refereed many games. He was instrumental in the formation of the Black and Gold Tournament. He also coached many girls' grade school softball teams.

In April 1981 he participated in the Parish Renewal Retreat where his faith was renewed. He facilitated and participated in many parish prayer groups, Life in the Spirit Seminars, OLS Charismatic Prayer Group, Healing Seminars with the Tree House Ministry, and he joined the 10:30 am Mass Guitar Group, singing with them for 16 years.

Services : Celebrated on his birthday Friday, June 4th, 2021 at Our Lady of Sorrows visitation from 4:30pm until the time of the memorial mass at 5:30pm. Reception dinner following in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church would be appreciated. John proudly donated his body to St. Louis University School of Medicine.
