John J. Frein

John Joseph Frein was born December 15, 1941 to Elmer and Ida Frein in Belleville, Illinois.

John attended St. Louis School for the Blind through grade school. After graduating from high school, he attended college at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri majoring in history. He later received a master’s degree in education from St. Louis University. He went on to teaching history at Notre Dame High School for 25 years. He also participated in the John XXIII Group for some time.

John enjoyed listening to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games as well as the St. Louis Cardinals football games before they moved to Arizona. He had a love for jazz music as well.

John was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elmer and Ida Frein; his brothers, Donald & Martha Frein, Charles Frein; and his nephew, Paul Frein.

John is survived by his nephews and nieces along with their families; William Frein, Denver, CO; Natalie (Delia) Carr, Brooklyn Park, MD; Aaron Frein, Seattle, WA.; Matthew (Candace) Frein, Bloomington, MN; Victoria Frein (Ben Russell), Rochester, MN; Elizabeth Frein, Box Elder, SD; Katrina (Jake) Carr and children, Guinevere and Sebastin, Box Elder, SD; Ruth Best (Dale Dinterman), Gary, IN; and sister-in-law Sandi Frein, Waukee, IA.

Funeral Mass for John will be Thursday, June 18, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials donated to Missouri Council of the Blind.
