John H Remelius entered into eternal rest on November 18, 2025 at the age of 95.
He was born November 23, 1929 to Henry and Elsie (Voyles) Remelius in St. Louis.
He was united in marriage to Joan Fahndrich on February 9, 1957 at Grace United Church of Christ in St. Louis. They were married for over 54 years.
John was a member of the Boy Scouts for over 85 years, serving in a variety of roles, including Scoutmaster of Troop 24 and Troop 821, and was on the board of the St. Louis Eagle Scout Association. He founded the Scouting Memorabilia Association of St. Louis. John is a past president of the Carondelet Historical Society and in 2025, Carondelet Historical Society named their meeting room for him. He was a charter member of the Affton Historical Society. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ. He was a Master Mason in the Gardenville-Cache Lodge. John was an active volunteer in the Affton School District for over 50 years, and was awarded one of the first SOAR awards in the district. He was also active with the Affton Chamber of Commerce.
In 1982, he was named the Affton Citizen of the Year.
John proudly served his country in the Army from1953 to 1955 stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.
He spent most of his career at the White Rodgers Division of Emerson Electric, but also worked for Nordyne.
John was predeceased by his wife, his parents, his daughter, Janet and her husband Dimitri Stefo, and his son John (Jack) Remelius II.
He is survived by his sons Jim of Kingsville, TX and Jeff and his wife Jeanne of Bem and St. Louis, MO; daughter-in-law Susan Remelius, grandchildren John (Kristina) Remelius, Adam and Angela Stefo, Zachary, Andrew, Sarah, Katherine, Justin, and Benjamin Remelius; sister-in-law Mary Ann Birmingham. He is also remembered as a dear uncle and friend.
The family would like to thank all of his caregivers over the last month of his life, but especially Lauren and Tammy of Accent Care Hospice and Palliative Care.
John donated his body to the Washington University Medical School.
Memorial donations may be made to the Carondelet Historical Society, Grace UCC, the Affton Educational Foundation, or the Annual Giving Campaign of the St. Louis Area Council of Scouting America
A memorial service will be held on December 13 in the John Remelius Room at the Carondelet Historical Society, 6303 Michigan Ave at 11 am. Visitation will be from 9 am until the time of the service.
