John Spiedel

June 2, 1981 — September 8, 2022

We are devastated to announce the passing of John Richard Spiedel suddenly on September 8th, 2022, at the age of 41. John was a loving Father, Son, Brother, Uncle and friend to all that came to know him. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Copeland, his son, Noah, and his daughter, Serena, as well as his mother Sandra, his sister Jane (Stephen) Olumoya, and his dear niece and nephews Felicia, Connor, and Nathan.

John was born to Sandra Spiedel, nee Lang, and the late Richard Spiedel. He grew up in Wishek, North Dakota before moving to Boise, Idaho, and eventually settling in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Cynthia in 2016 becoming a father to Noah, with Serena arriving a year later. A devoted family-man, John’s love shown through every aspect of his life. From implementing ‘Taco Tuesdays’, shepherding the children to their nightly activities, and Friday night ‘Boys Night’ in the man cave, to the two to four bedtime stories required by Serena each evening, John’s commitment to his family was deeply felt and will be sorely missed.

John was open-hearted, fun-loving, patient, and understanding. He had a laid back and easy-going demeanor that made him relatable and caused you to gravitate toward his presence. John loved coin-collecting, baseball, reading, and cheering his children on in every activity they did.  He had a passion for building and tinkering that he shared with his son, working on projects in and around the house with Noah incessantly. A former regular at Hooligan’s Pub in Boise, more recently he could be found unwinding on his back deck or in the man cave in a chair that he and Noah built together.

Memorials are appreciated and can be forwarded to Cynthia Copeland for Noah and Serena’s future needs.

We will be celebrating the life of John on Thursday, September 15, 2022, with a gathering of friends and family from 5pm-7pm and a memorial service at 7pm at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 7027 Gravois Ave, St. Louis, MO 63116.
