Joyce Schmittgens

Joyce Marie Schmittgens, nee Werner, 93, passed away February 14, 2022. Daughter of the late Cletus Sr. and Agnes, nee Temmeyer, Werner, wife of the late Joseph G. Schmittgens Jr, mother of; Christine (Ray) Lorenz, Mark Schmittgens, Mary Ellen (Dennis) Gipson, Eric (Cely) Schmittgens, Carl (Maureen) Schmittgens Sr., Claire (Mason) Laster, and Katie Schmitttgens, grandmother of; Erika (Marty) Kennedy, Karin (Chris) Johnson, Anne (Eli) Rutledge, Mark, Tiffany, and Natalie Schmittgens, Ellen (Jordan) Birkett, Derek (Chrissie) Gipson, Renee (Dan) Stock, Heidi Schmittgens, Jamie (Mike) Autenrieth, Joe and Carl Jr. Schmittgens, Mary Catherine (Mike) Ritz, Olivia, William, and Sarah Laster, and Anthony, Salvatore, and Mary Joyce Scimeca, great grandmother of 18, sister of; the late Virginia (the late John) Costello, the late Cletus A. (the late Joan) Werner Jr, and the late James John (Maureen survives) Werner Sr. She is also survived by many other dear relatives.

Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was retired from Warren H. Green Publishing after which she enjoyed traveling with her late husband out west and to visit family and friends. Joyce also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and having her family over for Sunday dinner. She was a former member of St. Cecilia Parish and more recently attended St. Agatha Catholic Church.

Memorials are appreciated to the St. Agatha Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, February 21, 2022, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 7027 Gravois Ave, St. Louis, Missouri 63116.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 10 am on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, 17 Joy St. St. Louis, Missouri 63119, with visitation an hour prior at the church. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. www.ZiegenheinFuneralHome.com
