Kirk Brian Hammel passed away on July 7, 2026.
Kirk grew up in South County and was the son of the late Homer Eugene Hammel and Bettie Jean Hammel. He dedicated more than 25 years of his working at UPS and was a member of the Teamsters union as well as a hardworking entrepreneur who owned and operated his own landscaping business.
Kirk was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life and had many passions. He loved hunting and fishing and had a great appreciation for antiques, guns, and cars. He especially enjoyed beach vacations and the memories made while traveling. Above all else, Kirk cherished spending time with his children and his granddaughter, Skylar. His family was an important part of his life, and the time spent together created memories that will be carried on by those who loved him.
Kirk is survived by his children, Brandon Hammel and Melanie (Collin) Leasck; his only grandchild, Skylar Hammel; and his brothers, Scott (Kathy) Hammel and Larry (Chris) Hammel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Eugene Hammel and Bettie Jean Hammel, and his sister, Sharon Hessler.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hessler's Pub on August 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather together to celebrate Kirk's life, share memories, and honor the time they were fortunate enough to have with him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Feed My People, an organization Kirk often supported through his own charitable giving.
