Mark Stephen Manelli

Mark was born to Charles J. “Chuck” and Anne Marie Geoghegan Manelli. He was a dear husband to Suzanne Manelli; brother-in-law to Kim Manelli, Karen Muzzy (Mike), Leslie Elgert and Chris Elgert; uncle to Stephanie Manelli, Matthew Manelli, Michael Manelli, Emily Muzzy and Sarah Gallagher (Kevin); great-uncle to Kate and Owen Gallagher; and cousin to Cynthia Zizzi. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother Matt Manelli.

Mark attended Chaminade High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He pursued a number of occupations during his adult life, his favorite being a journalist and talk show host at the local NPR affiliate station KWMU. His proudest achievement was to receive a National Edward R. Murrow Award for radio journalism in Sports Reporting.

Mark was a funny, loving, scrappy, big-hearted man who lived life his way up to the end. He was not defined by "career" - how do you describe audio sales/radio journalism/public relations/golf courses/grocery/personal shopping - but by his observations of, and interactions with other people. Radio especially gave him opportunity to converse with people from the local to the national level, but he took interest in others from all walks of life. He could regale you for hours with stories from work, travel, childhood, golfing and many other experiences. Even in difficult times in the hospital, he would make the nurses laugh.

He loved music and his taste spanned from Frank Sinatra to the Grateful Dead, sprinkled with jazz, bluegrass, Bruce Springsteen and chamber chorus. He was the go-to guy for all things movie and could reach a long way back. He and Suzanne traveled the US, Canada and Europe and took special joy in escapades off the beaten path and in everyday local settings.

Mark was a sweet, devoted husband of 50 years. He was a constant source of love, support and encouragement. He kept his emotions close to his heart, but loved family and friends deeply. He especially ached for his brother Matt who courageously battled cancer. As a child of God, he now rests in the Lord's loving arms. Mark, we love you always!

There will be a Service of Remembrance on Saturday, August 15 at 1:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church, 1401 North Hanley Road.
