Mary Cecelia Lechner

Mary C. Lechner, nee McCloskey, transitioned to her eternal life in heaven on Wednesday February 21, 2024, at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Donald Lechner; dear daughter of the late James and Cecelia, nee Martin, McCloskey; loving mother of Michael (Velma Linder) Lechner, Donna Lechner, Rita (Rick) Younger, and Gage (Heather) Lechner; cherished aunt to Tim (Erin) McCloskey; caring grandmother of Kyle (Alyssa) Younger, Kori (Keller Rongey) Younger, Kole Younger, and Hattie Lechner; and dear friend to many. 

Mary was a devoted and beloved member of the South County community. She volunteered for various organizations in multiple roles. Mary’s devotion to her community ranged from leading Girls Scouts troops to coaching bowling, from volunteering as a librarian to acting as the president on the Madonna Guild and acting as CYC director.  

In her free time, Mary was known to be an avid penny slots player, a winner at bingo night, and a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. When she was found in quieter moments, Mary could be found working on a crochet project or working on puzzles that she loved so much. Mary’s care, love and impact will be remembered and greatly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Alzheimer’s Association. 

Mary’s visitation will be held Sunday February 25, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South County Chapel 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO 63129. Her funeral Mass will take place the following morning, February 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church before Mary’s interment in Resurrection in Cemetery.
