August 14, 1941 — August 20, 2025

St. Louis, Missouri

Mary Lou Schulte, nee Helwig, asleep in Jesus on Wednesday August 20, 2025, one week after her 84th birthday. Beloved wife for 43 years until his passing of the late Thomas W. Schulte; devoted mother of Deborah (Gregory) Newton, Douglas Schulte, and the late Patrick “Pat” Schulte; treasured grandmother of Allison, Caitlin, Victoria, and Dana; and blessed great-grandmother to many. Mary Lou is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.

Mary Lou was born in the swing of summer 1941 to parents the late John and the late Nadine, nee Spurling, Schulte. She would complete her schooling career as a proud graduate of Hardin High School before meeting Thomas Schulte.

Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, creating a legacy filled with affection and cherished memories. Together, they enjoyed many happy years, particularly at their lake house in Terre du Lac, where they spent joyous times in retirement until Thomas's health began to decline. These moments by the water were among her most treasured, and Mary Lou often reflected on the happiness they brought her and Thomas. After Thomas’s passing, Mary Lou demonstrated remarkable strength, spending eight fulfilling years living in Florida, where she found joy in the relaxing atmosphere of palms and beaches. These years were marked by her determination to embrace life, drawing on the strength of her memories and the love of her family.

Mary Lou embarked on a commendable career with the railroad, where she served as a supervisor of payroll. She began this journey shortly after the birth of her three cherished children, demonstrating resilience and dedication. Over the span of approximately 50 years, she became a respected figure in her field until her retirement.

Mary Lou was not only devoted to her family and profession but also deeply committed to her faith and the Lord. Her spiritual convictions were central to her life, influencing her actions and the way she nurtured her family until her final moments

Mary Lou leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, celebrated through the lives she touched and the memories she created. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, a matriarch whose spirit embodied care. Her family and friends will forever hold dear the values she instilled and the sweet moments shared.
