Austin, Nada Mary, nee Kabalin, February 8, 1927-December 11, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Robert Austin; loving mother of Susan (the late Frank) Jablonski and Kim (Bill Fleischman) Duprey; loving grandmother of Rob (Julie) Shaw and Dawn (Ben) Geringer; loving great-grandmother of Mike (Elizabeth), Cailtin, Dan, Rilee, and Brock. Nada was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 siblings, and son-in-law, Gerald.
Following the death of her mother, as a child Nada spent time in the care of Hessoun Catholic Orphanage, which was run by Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. Though the circumstances that put her there were difficult, she always remembered the orphanage fondly, and donated to children's charities throughout her life. Her faith in God was strong: she was always devout in praying and saying the rosary. She was also a member of St. Anne Sodality.
Nada was proud of her Croatian heritage, always sharing stories about the Croatian immigrant culture she came from, retaining lifelong friendships and a lifelong membership in Novi Vinodol Club. Nada was a people person--she knew no stranger. She had a ribald sense of humor and loved to dance. She was a tough, old broad, working until her retirement for Mayrose Packing.
In 2017, she celebrated 70 years of marriage to her late husband, Robert, before his passing. She loved her family and would do anything for the people she loved. She will be greatly missed.
Nada’s favorite color was purple, and her family asks for all who attend her services to wear something purple in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Sisters of Mercy of Holy Cross at 1400 O’Day Street Merrill, WI 54452, care of Sister Linda
