Obituary

Olivia Kay Rose entered into rest on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the age of 83. Preceded in death and reunited in heaven with husband Donald “Don” P. Herman; parents Clarence Hubert and Mildred Frances, nee McCall, Rose; and brother Larry Rose. Olivia is survived by dear children Foster (Leah) Burns and Laura (Layne) Burns; granddaughter Danielle Hoyer; and many other dear relatives and friends.

Olivia was born in Mexico, Missouri to eager parents Clarence and Mildred in late November 1942. Throughout her life, Olivia was a devout Lutheran, dedicating her time and faith to numerous congregations, with the most recent church she called home being Faith Oakville Lutheran. Olivia’s trust in the Lord guided her through her Master’s degree in education, a career which she found greatly rewarding.

Throughout her time as a beloved educator, Olivia touched many lives. She worked and served in her community as a high school teacher and principal, and shared her gifts of time and knowledge with students in the Special School District of St. Louis County.

In quieter moments outside of work, Olivia cherished gardening and admiring flowers, reminded of the everyday gifts with which the Lord blessed her. She enjoyed cooking and the creative outlet that could be found in the kitchen and shared with others. Olivia also delighted in sharing stories of her love of antiquing and the hunt for precious pieces that might adorn her home.

While we mourn the loss of a beloved teacher and mother, we celebrate that Olivia is at peace and with her Lord and loved ones. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to World Vision or Compassion International in Olivia’s honor.

A memorial service for Olivia’s friends and family to celebrate her fulfilling life will be held on Monday July 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South County Chapel 4830 Lemay Ferry Road St. Louis, MO 63129.
