Paul Joseph Sumner, a dedicated family man and proud veteran, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 83 in Arnold, Missouri. Born on March 24, 1942, in Saint Louis, Missouri, he lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a profound commitment to those he held dear.
Paul was the loving husband of Judy (nee Gillihan) Sumner, and together they nurtured a family that was the center of his world. He is survived by his beloved children, Paul (Colleen) Sumner and Nancy (Edward) Krembuszewski, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and strong values. He found immense joy in being a grandfather, a role he cherished deeply. His grandchildren, Kelsey (Michael) Calhoun, Beata (Aaron Cain) Krembuszewski, Paul (Olivia) Sumner, Sebastain Krembuszewski (Jackie Bliss), and Alina Krembuszewski (Erik Stiegman), were a constant source of pride and happiness in his life. In addition to his family, Paul is remembered as a dear brother to Gary Sumner.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lester Earnest Sumner and Dorothy Anna (nee Stolle) Winn, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity that defined his character. And his siblings Lester Sumner, Larry Sumner, and Danny Sumner.
Paul's journey included a commendable military service; he enlisted in the United States Army in 1959, embodying the spirit of dedication and commitment to his country. His passions extended beyond his work and family. Paul enjoyed leisurely bowling afternoons and delightful picnics with loved ones, moments that reflected his love for connection and community.
Friends and family will gather to pay their respects during visitation on December 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes - South City Chapel, located at 7027 Gravois Ave, St. Louis, MO. A funeral service will be held on December 5, 2025, at 8:45 AM at the same location, followed by interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 10:30 AM.
Paul Joseph Sumner's life was marked by love, service, and a deep appreciation for family and friends. He will be dearly missed, yet fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
