Richard Gunnar Berg went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born to the late Gunnar J. and Emma W. (née Fassold) Berg, Richard lived a life rich in love, faith, and devotion. He was the beloved husband of Diane (née Vulliet) Berg, with whom he shared 53 beautiful years of marriage; a partnership marked by unwavering love, laughter, and profound dedication.
Richard was a devoted and proud father to Angela (Chris) Schiller, Todd (Amy Kuthe) Berg, and Donata Berg. He was the cherished grandfather of Alex (Dani) Schiller, Max (Emma) Schiller, Jaxson Schiller, Molly Berg, and Leah Berg. His family was truly the joy of his life, and he poured his heart into being a steady, loving presence for each of them.
A man grounded in faith, Richard was a loyal and lifelong member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, where he found purpose, community, and deep spiritual fulfillment. His faith shaped the way he lived; kindly, generously, and with strength.
Richard loved the simple pleasures that brought people together: playing pinochle, hosting gatherings for family and friends, and firing up the grill for the famous ribs; prepared with the special recipe everyone loved. His home was a place of warmth, laughter, and welcome.
Above all, Richard will be remembered as the pillar of his family; a patient father, a loving husband, a steadfast friend, and a man whose presence made life better for those around him. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the countless memories he created.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his church community, and all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials to Epiphany Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society/?campaign=honormemorialmenu">American Cancer Society in Richard’s honor.
