Russell John Fitch Jr. “Jack” passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16th at the age of 97, preceded in death by his parents, Russell Fitch Sr., Piccola “Billie” Fitch nee Hahn, and his sister Jane Fitch.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Gerlinde Fitch, his two children Cheryl Fitch Noble and Russell “RJ” Fitch III, grandchildren Katharine “Katie” Simpson (Travis) and Julia “Julie” Noble (Timmy Danielewicz), three great grandchildren, and his brother Lawrence “Larry” Fitch. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
Jack was a devoted provider to his family. He was active in the Webster Groves community including president of the Lion’s Club, served on the Chamber of Commerce, and volunteered with the Webster Groves Police Department where he received an honorary police badge during his time there. He was in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor at the end of World War II.
He was vice president of the Webster Groves Theater Corporation for 30 years (Webster Groves Cinema aka Ozark Theater). Because of this he was well known and fondly remembered by many within that community as well as by previous employees. He managed the theater until 1978 when he officially retired, but then continued work for AMC Theaters as a repairman for various cinemas in the St. Louis area. He loved the technology of his time and hobbies surrounding that, including building audio systems, ham radio, as well as computers when they first became available to the general public and beyond.
