Shirley M. Nottelmann, nee Nabors, entered into rest on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the accomplished age of 91. Beloved wife of and reunited with the late Walter H. Nottelmann; devoted mother of Thomas E. Nottelmann and James A. (Gwyn) Nottelmann; cherished grandmother of Evan Nottelmann, Kristin (Gabe) Wood, and Kaitlyn (Andrew Rawdon) Nottelmann; blessed great-grandmother of Carter, Nora, Ella, Myles, and Anderson. Shirley is also survived by many other dear relatives and friends.
Born on March 29, 1935, Shirley’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to nurturing the spirits and minds of those around her. Her career as a long-time employee of the Affton School District left an indelible mark on countless students and faculty alike. Through her roles as counsing secretary, Shirley was known not only for her professionalism but also for her empathy, patience, and unwavering support. She was a guiding light to many, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand, helping to shape a welcoming and understanding environment within the school community.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shirley was a soul enriched by faith, music, creativity, and family. She was a long-standing member of St. Phillip's United Church of Christ, where her passion for music found a profound outlet. As a cherished member of the church choir, Shirley’s voice lifted the congregation, adding a heartfelt resonance to worship and fellowship. She also was the first director of the Handbell choir.
In her quieter moments, Shirley enjoyed reading and delighted in the art of sewing, a hobby that allowed her to express both creativity and care. The gentle melodies she coaxed from the piano filled her home with warmth, while her affection for flowers reflected a soul attuned to beauty and growth. Yet, above all these passions was her deep love for her grandchildren. Time spent playing card games with them was a treasured joy in her life—a testament to her playful spirit and the close bonds she cherished within her family.
Shirley Nottelmann’s life was a radiant tapestry of dedication, kindness, faith, and love. She leaves behind memories that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on in the students she guided, the music she shared, the family gatherings brightened by her presence, and the many hearts touched by her gentle and giving nature.
