Vasyl Vasilievich Pikhulya, a distinguished German language professor at Foreign Languages University of Kyiv, Kyiv Ukraine, renowned writer, journalist, and translator from 5 languages, peacefully passed away on his 83 birthday in Des Peres, Missouri. He was born on August 9, 1941, in Poltava, Ukraine.
Vasyl was preceded in death by his parents: mom Alexandra Alexseevna Pikhulya and father Vasyl Ivanovich Pikhulya.
Vasyl was a beloved husband to his devoted wife Rayisa Petrovna Pikhulya (Vakterova). He cherished their daughter, Arina (Warren) McAllister, and took great pride in his grandchildren, Jan (Jordan) Fanning, Marina Fanning (her fiancé Daniel Grove), and Maxim Fanning. Vasyl is also survived by his sister, Nina Pikhulya, and his brother, Leonid Pikhulya.
Vasyl, known for his dedication to academia and literary pursuits, held a master’s degree in journalism, a testament to his commitment to education and intellectual growth. Throughout his illustrious career, he published three books, served as an editor in a prominent publishing company, and lent his linguistic expertise as a translator in Germany. Notably, he also contributed his skills to working with individuals with disabilities, showcasing his empathy and compassion for those in need.
Friends and family of the late Vasyl Vasilievich Pikhulya are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes - South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO, 63129. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be held on the same day, August 13, 2024, starting at 3:00 PM at the same location.
