Victoria Pointer

Victoria Ann Pointer (Schmatz), 78, St. Louis, died peacefully at home on Aug. 1 after a battle with cancer. Known as “Vicki” to all who knew her, she was the daughter of Audrey and Elmer Schmatz and a 1961 graduate of Beaumont High School. She married Frank Pointer, her high school sweetheart, in 1965. The couple moved to Arnold in 1972, where she lived until last year.

Vicki was a 49-year member of St. David Catholic Church and known for a radiant smile and endless displays of warmth and kindness. She looked for the best in people, even during difficult times. She loved exercising and was member of Ten Toes Express, in which she took walks with fellow seniors across the St. Louis area. She enjoyed travel, particularly mystery trips, where she and others wouldn’t know their destination until arriving at the airport. She also found great joy in her grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died in 2010. She is survived by son Michael of Silver Spring, Md.; daughter Amy (Todd) Teuscher of University City; daughters Sara (Eric) and Anne of St. Louis; brother Thomas; and sisters Audrey, Margaret and Mary. Dan, another brother, also preceded her in death. She was a loving grandmother to Madeline (Adam), Abigail, Jack, Kathryn, Nicholas (Greta), Phillip, Lily and Lucy and loving great-grandmother to Elliot, the light of her life during the last 21 months.

Visitation will be held at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons South County, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. David Catholic Church, 2334 Tenbrook Road, Arnold, on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Arnold. Donations preferred to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1310 Papin Street, St. Louis, Mo., 63103. Vicki’s family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for the kindness it showed during her final days.
