Virgil Joseph Franklin

Virgil Joseph Franklin, asleep in Jesus, April 13, 2023, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Virgil attended DeAndreis High School in St. Louis, Missouri before joining the U.S. Army in 1969. Virgil was recognized by the United States Army for his gallantry and honorable service during his tour in Vietnam. He was presented with a silver star medal, a bronze star medal, a purple heart medal, along with several other medals, ribbons, and badges.

Virgil’s greatest love was his family and his tool collection, which he enjoyed thoroughly.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, William L., and Alberta J. (nee Behan) Franklin

Beloved husband to Debbie (nee Grimm), loving father to William Franklin (Becca Schaaf), Joseph Franklin (Courtney Colombo) and Piper Accalia (Elliot Pelot). Loving grandfather to Faith Franklin and most special grand-dog, Gabby. Dear brother to Sylvia (the late Dr. Wallace) Stuart, Mary (Bill) Kikas, and Tom (Sandy) Franklin. Loving Brother-in-law to Bonnie (Rick) Austin, Connie Shreves, Janet Ingram, and Colleen Mulligan. Virgil was a loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many, and will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral service, April 19, 2023, to begin at 11:30 a.m. at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, MO. 63129

Interment to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
