William J.B. Mathis Jr.,85, passed away February 1, 2023. Son of the late William J.B. and Theresa, nee Blum, Mathis, father of Michelle (Richard) Matuszczak, grandfather of Elizabeth Mathis, brother of; the late Cynthia Abongon, the late Francis Goodman, the late Loretta Kadlez, the late Faye Emily, and the late Nellie Linn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
William was a veteran of the Navy and then retired from the St. Louis City Fire Department after 31 years of service. After retirement he worked for Enterprise Leasing. He enjoyed traveling, taking his daughter and granddaughter to Ireland and on a cruise. William enjoyed fishing either with his buddies or on trips to Canada. He was a Grandpaw to all his puppies. You could often find him at home watching old cowboy and westerns movies. He was very proud of his Mercedes and enjoyed driving it. William was a proud Mason holding memberships in; Algabil-Freedom Lodge #636, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and the Alhambra Grotto as well as many appendant bodies. William was also a member of the American Legion, Friday Friars, and on the board of Fine Star.

Visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, with a Knights Templar Service at 7:00 and a Masonic Service at 7:30 at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home South City Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. 63129. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
