Clenelle Johnson

August 2, 1963 — October 28, 2019

Clenelle “CJ” Johnson passed away October 28, 2019.  Clenelle was born in East Saint Louis, IL, on August 2, 1963, to the union of Evelyn Inez Davis and Walter Johnson.  He was raised in East Saint Louis by his mother and stepfather, John Gerrard.  He graduated from East Saint Louis Senior High School in 1981.  Clenelle was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 1, 1996.  He attended the Park Congregation in St. Louis, MO.

Clenelle worked as a carpenter for many years and eventually opened his own business, Major League Construction.  He was very proud of his company and the work they did, which serviced many residential and commercial properties.

Clenelle entered into holy matrimony to Shayla Eubanks on November 25, 2015, in St. Louis, MO.  They enjoyed serving Jehovah together and created many special memories.  Clenelle was a very socialable and comical person.  He would go out of his way to help anyone in need and would strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Clenelle loved to be around family and made sure he was at every family affair.  He was the jokester that brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.  Clenelle was known to many as the “King of Karaoke.” He would sing anything from old school, hip hop to country music while wearing his signature cowboy boots.  He was also the best storteller, using various voices, sound effects, and body movements to embellish the story.  Clenelle was a joy to be around and favored by many.

Clenelle is survived by his wife Shayla Johnson and siblings: Fred
Williams (Jane), Delores Johnson, Rhenda Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Evelyn Garrard, Latasha Brown, Umika Brown, Ketrick Brown, Arenza Brown, Oneal Johnson, Brenda Johnson.  Children: Christopher Clenelle Johnson, Alicia Renee James (Devin), Ashley Diane Harris (Jajuan), Clenelle Tiajuan Johnson, Clenelle Demetrius Johnson, Derwin Reese Johnson, Gabrielle Alayna Treadway.  Grandchildren: Alyssa Campbell, Jajuan Harris, Neriah Harris, Aminah Harris, Aaliyah James, An-Nur James, Sophia Treadway.

Clenelle was preceeded in death by his parents Evelyn Inez Davis-Garrard and Walter Johnson, his siblings: Donnie Johnson and Gene Johnson.
