Emily Smith

Our dear sweet Emily Andrea Smith, 55, passed away Thursday October 7, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

Emily was born August 13, 1966 in Perryville, MO to Thomas Carl Smith and Helen Adele (Huber) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the adored, precious, and pampered baby of our family.

Emily received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Fontbonne University in St. Louis MO. Her career focused on social work. She was passionate about her most recent position as a community liaison for a behavioral health hospital in St. Charles, MO. Emily was also passionate about music, old movies, PBS television, and her sweet fur babies. She was known for her infectious laughter, beautiful smile, and the ever-present sparkle in her eyes (hey cousins, shades of the McDermott Grandma Huber eye sparkle).

Emily was well traveled, having lived in Chicago, Jamaica, Sierra Leone, UK, New York, and Washington DC.

Emily was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister, Janine Connelly. She is survived by the love of her life, Dr. Shepherd Abrams, her 5 siblings, Suzanne Welker (Rod), Deborah Heiken (Jay), Carol Boman (Thomas), Thomas Smith, Jr. (Carolyn), Beth Carroll (Derek), her adopted “papa”, Murray Vittert, 12 nieces and nephews, and 13 great grand nieces and nephews.
