George Jones

December 28, 1930 — February 6, 2021

Saint Louis

Jones, George O., (90) of Saint Louis, Missouri, was born to Grover and Harriette "Hattie" Jones and entered into rest Saturday, February 6, 2021 in Saint Louis, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Mary Fanella Jones and his sister, Cleatus Lorene Schmidt.

He is survived by, three (3) children, G. Andrew “Drew” (Charlinda) Jones, Tim (Annapurna) Jones and Ruth (Betsy Green) Richardson, seven (7) grandchildren, Brandy Gair, Corrin (Larry Sherman) Drones, Kyle (Amanda Blanton) Richardson, Kendra Richardson, Kari Richardson, Dimitri Jones and Divya Jones, seven (7) great  grandchildren, Marcus, Savanna, Sidney, Miles, Chezza, Larry and Micah, one (1) brother, James “Jay” Jones, many other relatives and friends.

George served in the Marines during the Korean War, worked for Defense Mapping for over 25 years, and after retirement worked the meat counter at Schnucks.  He served in Community of Christ as an Elder, having been ordained in 1964, and was a long time member of Harmony (Gala).  He was well known as a kind and gentle man, with a fierce love for God and all His children. He lived that faith by visiting the sick, imprisoned and rejected, sitting with the dying and always remembering the forgotten.  He endured his own rejection and stayed strong in his faith. George’s presence was sure, sometimes traveling many miles to be with friends as they laid family to rest that he had never met.  George and his late wife, Fanella, often offered their home to strangers, providing them with shelter and love, including a child from Honduras who lived with the family for several years while he received care at Shriner’s Hospital.   As a widower, George ministered to his widowed neighbors by manicuring their lawns, providing transportation and simply being a friend. He enjoyed BLTs and chocolate milk shakes, pecan pie, homemade cranberry sauce, popcorn, visiting friends, animals, gardening and church music, but his passion was his family and their pets.  After many years of separation, George is reunited with his beloved wife, Fanella, whom he missed terribly. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in George’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
