Joan Murphy

On Sunday, August 23, 2020, Joan Murphy (Schroeter) loving friend and mother of four children, passed at the age of 85.

Joan was born on June 29th, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to Clarence and Eleanor (Schindler) Schroeter. Wife of the late Alan Murphy. Mother of one son, Matthew Murphy and three daughters, Lisa (Jim Riley) Bernstein, Bridget Murphy, and Amy Murphy. Grandmother of Terra (Nik) Corno, Jerry (Amber) Sherill, Zach Hefner, Jon Hefner, Samantha Briscoe. Great grandmother of Dominik Corno, Sienna Corno, Scarlett Corno, Jillian Sherrill, and Lilliana Sherrill,

Growing up she worked in the family business “Schroeter Pharmacy”. After high school she enjoyed traveling and embraced adventure. She attended Washington University, studying fashion design before marrying Alan Murphy.

Joan loved nature,poetry, and art,. She created charcoal and oil images of nature and her children. Throughout her life she enjoyed feeding the neighborhood birds before embarking on a long daily walk to meet a group of friends for coffee each morning at 6:00 am. Her compassionate, loving, kind, and practical nature was shared with all and will endure within her neighbors, friends, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all that knew her.

A devout Catholic, she was preceded in death by her parents Clarence C. and Eleanore Schroeter; brothers Louis C.(Julann) Schroeter, George C. (Darlene) Schroeter and Mary A. (Carl) Amann.
