Mary Seematter

Mary E. Seematter, 84, passed away January 8, 2022. Wife of the late Edwin K.  Seematter daughter of the late Ernest R. and the late Rosemary, nee Furlong, Jones, mother of Sara Seematter and Colleen Seematter, grandmother of Barbara Rose Seematter, sister of Robert (Carolyn) Jones, Patricia (Robert) Smith, Gregory (Cynthia) Jones, Rose (Ann) Jones, the late Larry (the late Diane) Jones, the late Frank (the late Jeanne) Jones, and the late Barbara (Pete) Cerneka. She is also survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

Mary was a former Sister of the Congregation of the Sisters of Loretto and continued being a co-member for the rest of her life upon leaving the order. She taught part time at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, worked full time in the educational programs at the Missouri Historical Society, and taught master’s level courses at Washington University in African American History in St. Louis. Mary enjoyed traveling with her daughters and granddaughter, especially to Ireland and Canada, had an interest in genealogy, and anything historical.  Mary had a fondness for her granddog Scout.

Memorial donations are appreciated in lieu of flowers to the Sisters of Loretto Community Mother House .

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1pm, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4092 Blow St., St. Louis, Missouri 63116
