Sheryl Stichling

April 18, 1960 — September 30, 2020

Sheryl “Sherri” Ann (nee Duffey) Stichling, 60, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends, who she loved so dearly.

Born April 18, 1960 in St. Louis, Missouri to William and Louise (nee Downs) Duffey, Sherri was the baby of her family. In July of 1977, Sherri’s mother, Louise, passed away, influencing her to form a strong bond and relationship with her father, until his passing in November of 2002. Born and raised in South City, she graduated Cleveland High School in 1978. In Spring of 1980, Sherri began working at Washington University, where she would devote the next 40 years, and become highly respected by faculty and staff. She married Terry Stichling in 1984, and become dear stepmother to Jacob Stichling. Terry and Sherri then had two children together, Derek and Natalie.

From her stylish kimonos and coordinating shoes and purses, to her eccentric jewelry and perfectly manicured nails, Sherri was known by all as quite the fashionista. Often praised for her professional-level decorating skills, Sherri’s home, yard, garden, and even office were always meticulously embellished for each season and holiday. Family and friends often adored her fall and Christmas decorations most of all. Collections of hers included Coca Cola memorabilia, Jim Shore figurines, and Rae Dunn décor. She enjoyed shopping, do-it-yourself projects, watching decorating shows and Dancing with the Stars, family game nights, craft nights, attending shows at the Fox Theater, and time spent at the casino with her husband, mother-in-law, and friends. Family was her priority, and she went above and beyond to make sure they knew that, making birthday and Christmas celebrations special for each family member. Her children were her best friends and she was theirs. She was perhaps proudest of her grandchildren, Sloan, and rainbow-baby, Landon (whom she did not have the fortune of meeting).

Sherri is preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Duffey, father-in-law, Louis Stichling, brothers William “Bill” and Robert “Bob” Duffey, brother-in-law, David Stichling, nephew, Ryan Duffey, niece Madison “Maddie” Duffey, and dear friend, Cindy Norman.

She is survived by beloved husband of 36 years, Terry Stichling, children Jacob (Abbi Glosier-Brown) Stichling, Derek (Emily) Stichling, and Natalie Stichling, grandchildren Sloan Elizabeth Stichling and Landon Lucas Stichling, brother Glenn (Kathy) Duffey, sister Linda (Steve) Tucker, mother-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Stichling, brother-in-law, Gary (Pat) Stichling, many nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and fur babies Daisy and Weasley.
