Catherine M. Kustra

Catherine M. Kustra

October 26, 1920 - July 04, 2018
Lenexa, Kansas

Kustra, Catherine M. "Katie" (nee Crnkovic)
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at the age of 97, in Lenexa, Kansas.
Katie lived a long, good life filled with her family and friends. She was born in St. Louis and lived there until she was 90 years old. A true south St. Louis woman, having been baptized, schooled, and married at St. Joseph Croatian Church. Katie was an active member of St. Joseph Croatian Church, the church her parents, along with other Croatian immigrants, founded. She moved to Lenexa, Kansas, in 2001, to be near her daughter. The family is grateful for all the friendships she formed at Rosewood Place during her seven-year residence there, especially Robin, Jo, Ron and Carol. She enjoyed the bingo and the people and her occasional trek to the casino with Phyllis. Katie was preceded in death by her beloved husband and daughter, John J. Kustra and Rosemary Kustra Brown. Also preceding her in death were her siblings: Joseph and Matt Crnkovich, Caroline Shirado, Barbara Muich and their spouses. Katie's survivors are daughter Joanne M. Kustra Verebelyi (Bill Rotert) of Lenexa, Kansas; grandchildren Vanessa E. Brown Prewitt (Dave), Gregory P. Brown, and Elaine C. Brown Buehner (Aaron); great grandchildren Michael C. Prewitt, Rosemary C. Goodwin, Jeffrey Buehner and Arianne Prewitt (Brandon Large), great great grandchild Lindsey Prewitt, sister-in-law Philomena Wania, and nieces, nephews and friends. The family expresses appreciation to Shawnee Mission Hospital, Brookdale Rosehill and the Lenexa Police Department for their kindness and compassion. Interment at National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

I loved Kate so much. In high school we would spend lots of hours at the Kustra's home. She made me laugh and I remember her sneaking a smoke at the kitchen window. Slightly opened so as not to tip off John that she was smoking. She would giggle and wave her hands to get rid of the smoke. I also liked those deluxe Imo pizzas some Friday nights and spending a few evenings at Hodak's. My deepest condolences. Joyce
