Funeral Director

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Meet with families to explain services and make the funeral, cremation, and interment arrangements
  • Explain cremation and embalming options
  • Help families determine the date, time, and location of ceremonies
  • Consulting with families to obtain accurate and necessary information for the death certificate
  • Provide pricing information and prepare contracts
  • File the paperwork necessary to obtain a death certificate
  • File paperwork necessary for insurance claims
  • Issuance of death notices and obituaries
  • Transfer the body to the funeral home
  • Obtaining documents and permits necessary for interment and cremation
  • Assist in preparing the deceased’s body: embalming, dressing, cosmetically enhancing, and casketing
  • Providing visitation, funeral, graveside, and interment services
  • Make arrangements with cemeteries for scheduling, opening, and closing of facilities and gravesites
  • Perform a variety of tasks to help funerals run smoothly
  • Driving Hearse and Limousines as needed
  • Answer phones and address inquiries and set appointments in a timely manner
  • Operation and oversite of the crematory
  • Building and grounds maintenance as needed
  • Cemetery set up and operation of equipment for graveside services
  • Clean, store and move funeral equipment as needed to set up and clean up after funeral  services
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and to be on call
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Required skills and abilities:

 

  • High school diploma (preferred advanced education)
  • Compassion for families during their time of loss
  • Ability to manage distressing and stressful situations with sensitivity and care
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Detail oriented and extremely organized
  • Ability to focus for extended periods
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software
  • Complete the NFDA Certified Crematory Operator certification
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Physically strong and dexterous; capable of lifting 75 pounds or more
