Personalizing a Funeral Service
Every person is unique, so the services that reflect and celebrate their life should be unique, too.
Personalizing a Service
While we share some ideas for personalization here on our website, allow us to share some more in-depth descriptions of what your options might look like. Whether you are planning services for a loved one or planning for your own future, our team at Ziegenhein are happy to coordinate with you to truly make a service one of a kind.
There are many ways that a funeral service can be personalized, and many of those customizations can be discussed in the arrangement room. When it comes to writing an obituary, capturing someone’s life in written text may seem daunting, but including key memories and notable quotes can easily bring that unique personality and life to mind. Even if you are not participating in the writing of the main text, we encourage sharing memories alongside your condolences on the obituary page.
When planning the service itself, talk with your funeral director to help plan ways to incorporate a variety of ways to honor the decedent, their beliefs, and their accomplishments. Share religious or spiritual preferences, veteran status, fraternal organizations, or the importance of the decedent's career. There are many options for military honors, both at the service and at the cemetery, and, akin but distinct, there are multiple service careers that have a funeral honor guard to thank the decedent for their dedication to their career or cause.
Other thoughtful personalization options can be as simple as sharing photographs, a slideshow or video, or setting out meaningful mementos or trinkets. Music choice is also an effective and uncomplicated way to bring a custom atmosphere to the service, especially since so much music can be linked to the making of memories. Whether you want to put together a playlist of prerecorded songs or hope to have live musicians performing as a tribute, we encourage you to talk with your arranging funeral director about music choices that might reflect memories or represent attitudes and attributes of the decedent appropriately.
Regardless of the type of service that you may be planning, now more than ever in the past, there are myriad opportunities to express the individual personality and impact of one’s life. The sky is the limit, and our funeral directors are eager to help plan a meaningful and memorable service!
